Traveling Europe - Sharing my 6 month experience traveling through 20 different countries

This past summer, I spent six months traveling across Europe through 20 countries, by car, motorcycle, trains, airplanes, and ferries — exploring everything from mountain roads and coastal drives to historic towns and remote countryside. What really stood out to me was how dramatically different each region felt, not just in scenery but in culture, pace of life, affordability, and the overall travel experience. Some places surprised me, some challenged me, and others instantly became new favorites.

Route 66 Road Ahead Partnership

Rhys Martin is an author and photographer from Tulsa, Oklahoma. His love of travel was awakened in 2009 when he sold all of his possessions and left the country. For ten months, he lived out of a backpack and explored southeast Asia and Europe. When he returned home, it was with fresh eyes for his home state. As he drove the back roads of Oklahoma, Rhys discovered the significance of historic Route 66 to the greater American story. He has traveled all 2,448 miles of the Mother Road and continues to seek out the quiet Main Streets of the Midwest.

Rhys’s travel writing and photography has been featured in numerous local, regional, and national publications. He wrote the book Lost Restaurants of Tulsa, which features the stories of nearly 50 iconic eating establishments from the city’s past, and was a contributing author for Route 66: 100 Years which released this past November.

Rhys is the current President of the Oklahoma Route 66 Association and serves on multiple boards and commissions related to the Mother Road, including the Route 66 Road Ahead Partnership. Since 2024 he has also worked for the National Trust for Historic Preservation as their national Preserve Route 66 manager. He loves to connect with people and share his experiences.

The Wandering Shores

We are Kyle and Michelle Shore—a couple of adventurers who, in September 2020, traded in our steady careers and most of our belongings for life on the road in a 28-foot travel trailer with our four cats. Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, we set out thinking it would be a two-year journey—but we quickly fell in love with the nomadic lifestyle and now travel full-time with no plans to stop.

Our adventures have taken us all over the U.S., from iconic national parks to quiet desert landscapes, rugged mountains, and remote boondocking spots. We share it all—epic hikes, mountain biking trails, kayaking trips, and helpful RV content like solar setups, water systems, gear reviews, maintenance tips, off-grid living strategies, and honest cost breakdowns

Lupe Alvarez

For more than nine years, Lupe has embraced the open road as a full-time RVer. This commitment to a nomadic lifestyle is made possible by his ownership of a thriving social media company, giving him the flexibility to work from anywhere.
